Here we decided to tell you in more detail about our wonderful online excursion to the very heart of Tbilisi – the Old Town. This online walking tour will be led by one of our professional certified guides.

So, we start our excursion from our office on Freedom Square.

Freedom Square

Our fascinating journey through the historical sites of one of the oldest and most beautiful capitals in the world, the city of Tbilisi, begins from the central square called Freedom Square. During its long history, this square has changed its name many times. You will learn more detailed details on our excursion, now we will only hint at its previous name. It will not be difficult for you to guess when you learn that in the place in the center of the square, where the column with the statue of St. George now stands, there used to be a similar tall monument to V.I. Lenin.

A.S. Pushkin Street. Pushkin square, sculpture of Pushkin, archaeological excavations of the walls of the old city

Further, our path continues down the street A.S. Pushkin. The sculpture of the famous poet is installed on the left in Pushkin Square. Alexander Sergeevich spent some time in our city during his trip to the Caucasus. Walking along the street Pushkin, you and I will see the remains of the fortifications that once surrounded the ancient city. Not so long ago, these archaeological finds were discovered and are now available for public viewing.

Baratashvili street. Konka, Berikebi, Fortress wall

Pushkin Street turns into a street named after the famous Georgian poet Nikoloz Baratashvili, whose monument stands at the opposite end of the street in a small park. In this area of the old city, we will get acquainted with several popular tourist attractions. We will see a show jumping – an old tram driven by a team of horses. Let’s find out to whom the large group sculpture of Berikebi is dedicated. This is one of the most popular photography spots. In a row of sculptures, circling in a round dance, it is as if there is one free place for each of you on purpose. These are usually great photos. Also, none of “our” tourists can resist and not take a picture with the sculpture of the Lamplighter, listening to our guide’s stories about how important and honorable was the work of the people of this profession that has gone into the depths of centuries. We will not reveal all the secrets frozen in the form of sculptures on Baratashvili Street. Let it remain a mystery now which sculpture standing there unites seemingly unrelated names like Alla Borisovna Pugacheva (a famous Soviet and Russian singer) and one of the most famous artists of Georgia – Niko Pirosmani.

Shavteli Street, Puppet Theater, Anchiskhati Basilica, Residence of the Patriarch

We invite you to turn from the wide Baratashvili street to the narrow, cozy, pedestrian street Shavteli. The first thing that we will meet on our way is Rezo Gabriadze’s Puppet Theater. It is absolutely impossible to pass by this place without stopping to take a closer look at the unusual “falling” tower, built according to the design of Rezo himself. Our guide will tell you about all the wonderful details in the appearance of the theater itself and the theater cafe “Do not Goryuy”. Next to the puppet theater is the oldest church in Tbilisi – the operating Basilica of Anchiskhati of the 6th century.
Walking further along the narrow pedestrian street Shavteli, we approach the gates of the residence of the Patriarch of Georgia. It is not possible to go inside, but being at this place and listening to the story of our guide, you will learn a lot about the history of the adoption of Christianity in Georgia, about St. Nino, Equal to the Apostles and other very interesting and significant historical facts.

Bridge of Peace, Rike Park

Further, our route will continue to the opposite side of the Kura River through the Bridge of Peace (or Crystal Bridge). Made of glass and metal, this bridge is very popular with tourists.  It is especially beautiful when the backlighting lights are on. A beautiful view opens from the bridge. From here we will see several more famous landmarks. Then we go down to the Rike Park and through it, listening to the story of the guide, we will go to the Europe Square.

Metekhi bridge. Meydan Square.

We walk along Europe Square to the Metekhi Bridge. This is one of the oldest bridges in the city. Some tragic moments in the history of our city are also associated with it. From the middle of the bridge there is a beautiful view of the old city, Meydan Square, Metekhi Church, the Palace of Queen Darijan, the Sulfur Baths area, where we will come and many other interesting objects, which our guide will tell you about in detail. And this is far from the end of our long walking tour of the old city!

Sulfur Baths District, Fig Gorge, Tsavkissky Waterfall

Not far from the oldest trading square of the old city of Tbilisi is the Sulfur Baths district. This is one of the oldest parts of the Old Town. The existing baths, which are more than 200 years old, have survived here, including the “Motley Bath”, which was visited by A.S. Pushkin and Dumas are the father.
Having passed into the depths of the Banj region, we find ourselves in the Fig gorge and walk along the rapid stream of water flowing along its bottom and flowing into the Kura at the end of its path. Going towards the current, we will definitely reach the Tsavkissky waterfall, falling from the river flowing in the botanical garden, down into the Fig gorge. This place is very beautiful. Many of you will surely envy the inhabitants of the houses hanging over the abyss of the Fig gorge.

Attention! Be careful! There is a real threat that after seeing Tbilisi during an online tour, you will unbearably want to come to us and take a look at all these beautiful places in spite of any obstacles.
