Excursion from Tbilisi on the route Gori – Uplistsikhe, like all our Tours in Georgia is a group excursion for one day. We will visit the following places and see the following sights:
- Gori City,
- The fortress Goriscikhe,
- The museum of Stalin,
- The Cave city of Uplistsikhe.
Gori City
The city of Gori is one of the oldest cities in Georgia. Unfortunately in 1920, the city was completely destroyed by a strong earthquake. After some time, the city of Gori was rebuilt, but not a single historical building remained in it except for the Goriscikhe fortress, and only the fortress wall, no buildings inside remained from it. Therefore, as part of our excursion, we do not visit the Goriscikhe fortress itself, but only look at it from the outside, since there is nothing interesting left inside.
Stalin Museum in Gori
The most famous resident of the city of Gori was Joseph Stalin, therefore it is here that the House-Museum of Stalin is located. One of the main exhibits of the museum is the House of Stalin – representing a small house is placed inside the colonnade with a roof. In the house preserved furniture and furnishings. Also in the museum is a real railway car of Stalin, in which he traveled by rail.
Uplistsikhe Cave City
Uplistsikhe – a very ancient cave city dates back to the 2-1 century BC. It is assumed that the caves were used until the 19th century. Uplistsikhe retained the remains of architectural and religious buildings, built over several millennia. Unfortunately, the earthquake of 1920 did not spare this unique monument of antiquity. Uplistsikhe was buried under the rubble until the 50s of the 20th century until it was cleared and restored. Now this wonderful world-famous landmark is open to the public.
Our guide will take you to the cave Uplistsikhe, so do not forget to wear comfortable shoes.
