We offer to make an unforgettable excursion to one of the most interesting regions of Georgia – Kakheti. This part of Georgia is known not only for being the birthplace of Georgian winemaking. Kakheti is a region with a rich ancient history, in which you can dive during our One-day tour “Kakheti: Sighnaghi – Bodbe Monastery – Tsinandali – Telavi”.
During this tour, you will visit the Bodbe Monastery, in which St. Nino is buried, and then you will have a trip to the city of Love – Sighnaghi with its fortress wall and wonderful views of the Alazani Valley. You can also try and buy excellent Georgian wine right in its homeland – in Kakheti.
On the road, which will take about 2 hours, you will receive comprehensive and historically accurate information about the fortresses and other sights of Kakheti, which will be found along the road, and about the city of Sighnagi. But, of course, the most important and interesting part of our narration will be the story of the life and work of St. Nino. During our tour you will learn about the history of the emergence of Christianity in Georgia. It is really very interesting.
In addition to the story of fortresses encountered along the way, about the town of Sighnaghi, the Bodbe monastery and the fascinating history of St. Nino, along the way you will learn general information about Georgia, about one of its most picturesque and fertile regions – Kakheti, its inhabitants, about Georgia wine and winemaking, about Georgian cuisine and traditions of the Georgian feast.
Sighnaghi – City of Love
In the town of Sighnaghi, which is known around the clock wedding palace and, of course, its ancient history, you will be accompanied by a guide on a walk along the fortress wall, which offers breathtaking views of the Alazani valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. By the way, the length of the wall in Sighnaghi is almost the second after the Great Wall of China.
Next we will go to Bodbe Monastery, where the well-kept and planted flowers area contains the tomb and the source of St. Nino. You will have the opportunity to walk around the monastery courtyard, once again admire the views and visit the holy places.
Then you will visit the museum-estate of Prince Chavchavadze, which is called Tsinandali. You walk through a large beautiful garden, where once Alexander Griboedov met Nino Chavchavadze, his future faithful wife. The building is now a museum.
Lunch in the Georgian house
Then you will have a wonderful hearty lunch in the Georgian house, where the hostess serves a large table, which contains all the main dishes of Georgian cuisine and homemade wines. In addition, at the request of the group, the hostess conducts a master class of Georgian cuisine. You can learn how to cook khinkali, churchkhela, baking bread in the national oven.
Excursion and Tasting at the Winery
It is difficult to imagine a trip to Kakheti without visiting the local wine production. The next item on our tour will be a visit to the modern Georgian winery, where we can personally see how the modern wine-making industry looks like, which is produced by the wonderful Georgian wines so loved by all of us. During the inspection of the winery you will be offered to try several varieties of wine and one brand of cognac. Favorite wines will be available at factory prices.
Telavi – the capital of Kakheti
Then we go on our way back to Tbilisi, but on the way you will have to visit Telavi, the capital of Kakheti, where you will see the residence of King Iracli II and his monument. One of the interesting points of the program is the Tree – Platan, which is more than 900 years old. This tree, in addition to its venerable age and huge size, was famous for shooting in the famous and beloved movie “Mimino”.
In Tbilisi through Gombori
The way back lies through the Gombori Pass, this section of the path will be remembered to you for a long time. The highest point is 1620 m above sea level. You will be surrounded by a magnificent landscape, which is a series of views of the Caucasus Mountains, the Alazani Valley, small Georgian villages, ancient forests, slopes with grazing flocks of sheep and many more different beauty.
It is worth noting once again that visiting all the points of our big journey and the lengths of the path between them are accompanied by the stories of our guide. You will receive complete information about everything you see.
We are sure that you will like and remember your trip for a long time. After all, the Bodbe Monastery and the majestic Basilica at the burial site of St. Nino cannot leave anyone indifferent who sees them, because they are so closely connected with the formation of Christianity in one of the first Christian countries – Georgia. The streets and fortress wall of Sighnaghi with views of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains, a beautiful large garden in Tsinandali, a giant sycamore tree, hinkali made with their own hands, a host table full of Georgian dishes, excellent wines and a tour of the winery, Gombor Gorge … all You will take these impressions with you along with beautiful photos and good mood!
